Public Awareness Project aims to raise awareness among the public and authorities (Ministry staff, police and military personnel, local administration) on the dangers of small arms.

The project also aims to raise the profile of the small arms problem and to publicize the concepts of this program throughout the international community.

Project activities include:

  • Distributing and installing printed materials such as posters, leaflets, T-shirts, stickers, banners and billboards with anti-weapon messags.
  • Supporting relevant ministries to conduct seminars and workshops about small arms for government personnel.
  • Producing and broadcasting videos and radio spots on small arms issues.
  • Providing information of the Program and the situation of small arms via the media and website.
  • Conducting peace education such as school events on small arms.

Posters, leaflets, radio spots and video films are used for awareness raising and education on small arms.

Billboard installed in Banteay Mean Chey Province.
The billboards are installed in all districts in JSAC target areas, located by the main roads and buildings.

Peace drawing contest.
JSAC carried out a peace drawing contest for primary school students.
The children learned about the threat of small arms, and were expected to spread the anti-weapon message to their parents and neighbours.
July 9th, Public Awareness Campaign on UN Small Arms Day
Every year, since 2004, JSAC has conducted a public awareness campaign on UN Small Arms Day (July 9) in Phnom Penh.

JSAC staff installed posters and banners in the city, and stickers, shopping bags and copies of the Arms Law were distributed with the "Say 'NO' to weapons" message.
