Ammunition and Explosives Removed and Destroyed in Battambang Province

Japan Assistance Team for Small Arms Management in Cambodia (JSAC), the local police, and CMAC have implemented a joint operation to safely collect ammunition and explosives remaining in the forests and underground in Ek Phnom District, Battambang Province.

The joint team collected a total of 680 ammunition and 44 explosives in Bakprea Village, Peam Seima Village and Phum Thmei Village of Prey Chas Commune. They were located in forests, pits and bushes near the residence areas, but were removed and transported safely by the CMAC team. Many of the UXOs were destroyed during the operation.

This operation started when villagers who participated in awareness raising workshops conducted by JSAC and its partner NGO informed local authorities about the location of these ammunition and explosives. JSAC has been encouraging villagers to inform local authorities about the presence of weapons caches and UXOs.
