Weapons Destruction Ceremony in Banteay Mean Chey Province |
The Royal Government of Cambodia and Japan Assistance Team for Small Arms Management in Cambodia (JSAC) have agreed to conduct the Weapons Destruction Ceremony in Sisophon, BanteayMeanCheyProvince on February 29, 2004. This is the second time for JSAC to co-organize the Weapons Destruction Ceremony with the Royal Government of Cambodia after the establishment of JSAC. About 2,500 weapons, which are voluntarily surrendered by civilians and also surplus weapons from the provincial police offices, will be publicly destroyed. The participants of the destruction ceremony are residents of the province (about 1,000 people), the provincial government officials, and the national police officials. All are welcome to attend. February 29, 2004 (Sunday) Starting at 9:00 a.m. Background of JSAC Japan Assistance Team for Small Arms Management in Cambodia is a project team organized by Japan International Cooperation Systems (JICS) by the fund of Japanese grant aid to implement “Peace Building and Comprehensive Small Arms Management Program in Cambodia.” It was established in April, 2003. Our activities consist of 4 projects: “Weapons Reduction and Development for Peace (WDP) Project,” “Safe Storage and Registration Project,” “Weapons Destruction Project,” and “Public Awareness Project.” |
