Weapons Destruction Ceremony
and Handover of Weapon Warehouse |
The Royal Government of Cambodia and Japan Assistance Team for Small Arms
Management in Cambodia (JSAC) will co-organize the Weapons Destruction
Ceremony in Serei Saophoan, the Capital of Banteay Mean Chey Province on
February 3, 2005. The number of weapons destroyed this time rises to 1,422, and all weapons are voluntarily surrendered by civilians through JSACfs WDP Project (Weapons Reduction and Development for Peace Project). Moreover, the Weapon Warehouse constructed by the support of JSAC will be handed over to the Provincial Police. In this project, JSAC does not only build warehouses but also aim the safer management of weapons through granting office equipments, database software and registration trainings.
The
participants of the Destruction Ceremony are residents of the province, the
provincial government officials, Cambodian Government officials, and national
and international guests. All are
welcome to attend. Note for Editors: Japan Assistance Team for Small Arms Management in Cambodia (JSAC) JSAC has colleted about 10,000 weapons since it started the project in 2003. JSAC is supporting Peace Building in Cambodia, through collecting illegally possessed weapons and introducing stockpiling system to manage legal weapons.
