The Republic of Palau is composed of around more than 500 big or small islands while people are living in 9 main islands. Recently, the number of tourist visiting this country is increasing year by year to enjoy abundant nature.
Two power plants located in Aimeliik and Malakal are supporting Palau people and those tourists.

In November 2011, all of generators in the Aimeliik power plant were burned out by a fire accident. Faced with a power shortage, the President of the Republic of Palau declared emergency and most of people were affected by planned blackout.

With this situation, the Government of Japan decided to extend an emergency grant aid for the purpose of contributing to the implementation of an emergency measure against power crisis.
JICS, as a procurement agent, has procured 4 generators to the Malakal power plant in cooperation with the end-user in the Republic of Palau, the manufacturer and shipping company.

On May 16, 2012, handover ceremony was held at the convention hall and the Malakal power plant. Mr. Jonson Tribion, President of Republic of Palau, Mr. Yoshiyuki Sadaoka, Japanese Ambassador to Palau, Mr. Temmy Shmull, Board Chairman of Palau Public Utilities Corporation and people from concerned parties joined the ceremony.
Palau side expressed their deep gratitude for prompt support from Japan.
In advance of the handover ceremony, the engineer of the manufacturer offered training regarding operating procedures and considerations on the generator.
One of the participants played the role of starting an engine in the ceremony.

The end-user, Palau Public Utilities Cooperation will use the newly supplied 4 generators through the monitoring of electricity needs in the country. "Generator is the engine of the economy of the Republic of Palau", as Mr. Jonson Tribion, President of Republic of Palau stated in his remarks. People are expecting an additional effect to their lives through the stable power supply.
