Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Republic of Colombia in Japan Pays a Courtesy Visit to JICS
We were deeply saddened to learn of the devastating earthquake that struck the Republic of Colombia on August 10, 2026.
On this sorrowful occasion, we would like to express our sincere condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by this disaster.
We sincerely hope that relief and assistance will reach those in need without delay, that the safety and well-being of the affected communities will soon be restored, and that recovery and reconstruction efforts will proceed swiftly and smoothly.

On July 28, 2026, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Mr. José Francisco Díaz Ulloa of the Republic of Colombia and three accompanying officials paid a courtesy visit to JICS.
As a procurement agent, JICS has supported Japan's Economic and Social Development Programme by procuring equipment and materials required in a wide range of sectors, including mine clearance, COVID-19 response, and agriculture.
Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Díaz conveyed his congratulations on the appointment of Mr. Higuchi as President of JICS. He also expressed his appreciation for the role that JICS has played as a procurement agent in implementing Economic and Social Development Programme projects and other cooperation initiatives. Furthermore, he noted that the incoming Colombian administration wishes to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between Japan and Colombia and expressed its expectations for even closer collaboration with JICS in the future.
In response, President Higuchi provided an overview of JICS, explained its role as a procurement agent, and emphasized that Colombia is an important partner for JICS.
Under the Economic and Social Development Programme for Colombia FY2023, the procurement of agricultural equipment is planned with the objectives of improving food self-sufficiency, enhancing living standards in rural areas, and consolidating peace through rural development. In addition, concerns are growing over the potential impact of the anticipated Super El Niño phenomenon and the disasters it may cause in Colombia. As a result, the importance of the Economic and Social Development Programme is expected to increase further.
JICS will continue to make every effort to ensure the effective and smooth implementation of Japan's economic cooperation projects in the Republic of Colombia.
