Grant Aid for Disaster Prevention and Reconstruction
Grant Aid for Disaster Prevention and Reconstruction is a new grant aid program begun in fiscal 2006 for disaster prevention and reconstruction in developing countries. This grant aid aims to provide uninterrupted assistance, from emergency aid for natural disasters to full-scale rehabilitation and reconstruction aid. It provides assistance for restoration and reconstruction of damaged schools, medical facilities, roads, bridges and other infrastructure components.
JICS' Role
Since fiscal 2006, when this grant aid program began, JICS has been mainly involved in managing implementation of projects for reconstruction after natural disasters. While grant aid for disaster prevention and reconstruction is needed quickly, many structures and facilities are in need of reconstruction, and therefore strong procurement management expertise and knowledge of many different areas are needed. As a procurement management agency, JICS supports the smooth and effective implementation of grant aid.
